(09.14.17) Birmingham, Ala.: Champion Sports Medicine is pleased to announce its parent company, Select Medical, recently named James R. Andrews, M.D., its new national medical director within its Outpatient Division. As part of the Select Medical Outpatient Division family of brands, Champion will partner with Dr. Andrews on a vast array of sports injury prevention, education and safety protocols for athletes.

Dr. Andrews is recognized for his scientific and clinical research contributions in knee, shoulder and elbow injuries, as well as his skill as an orthopaedic surgeon. He gained global recognition for conducting successful surgeries on hundreds of professional and amateur athletes, including Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Drew Brees and Jack Nicklaus. He currently serves as a team doctor for the NFL's Washington Redskins and Auburn University. Dr. Andrews has been the mentor for more than 250 orthopaedic/sports medicine fellows and more than 45 primary care sports medicine fellows. Involved in education and research in sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery, he has made major presentations on every continent and has authored numerous scientific articles and books.
As Select Medical's medical director, Dr. Andrews will work with Champion Sports Medicine and other notable brands within the Outpatient Division, including NovaCare Rehabilitation, Select Physical Therapy and KORT, to provide sports medicine expertise and support to help ensure patients are getting cutting-edge programs and services. He will develop and present educational materials and presentations, make appearances via virtual technology on hot topics in sports medicine and review and assist in the development of orthopaedic diagnosis rehabilitation protocols. In addition, Dr. Andrew's will conduct educational sessions to Select Medical's clinical staff in the proper utilization of approved rehabilitation protocols and identification and development of preventative programs to minimize injuries, as well as provide expertise and support in the development of injury prevention initiatives.
